ECA (Extra Curricular Activities)

You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives. – Clay P. Bedford

In keeping with OXFORD ENGLISH School’s philosophy of providing a well-rounded education, the extensive Extra-Curricular Activities programme enables students to participate in activities outside the academic arena. There is great excitement each term as students eagerly check the list of ECAs on the school’s website or get information from school office. This gives students a terrific opportunity to try something new or to receive expert coaching in their chosen area. Some activities are led by staff but many experts are also brought in to lead activities. Not all activities happen at school, so sometimes students travel off campus to participate in their favourite activity.

Activities are grouped into areas of sport, creative, language, ICT, dance, community, social and music, ensuring a good cross section of activities for students to choose from. Around 80 activities are offered to students in Key Stage 1 while Key Stage 2 students have more than 100 activities to choose from. Secondary students have over 150 ECA choices. Some activities can be chosen on a termly basis while others require a two or three term commitment. Participating in ECAs also enables students to spend time with others from different Year groups who share their interest.

Students in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) have the opportunity to participate in ECA sessions that are held at the end of their school day, 3.00 pm -4.00pm. The programme includes a range of dance, music, art, language (including some home languages) and sporting activities taught by school staff and visiting instructors.

Students from Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) have the opportunity to participate in ECAs at lunchtime and after school, from 2.30pm – 3.45 or 4.30pm. The after-school sessions offer a huge range of activities covering the arts, academic, sporting and community activities.

The extent to which Oxford English School students are able to find fulfilment across the wide range of ECA activities we offer is one of the school’s greatest strengths and most unique aspects. In Secondary, the range of extra-curricular activities available broadens in scope and increases in depth, allowing students to explore new interests while at the same time honing and developing existing skills.

Each term the ECA listing is available in our website or can be obtained from our school office. Below is just a small selection of the activities available:
